It’s important to take care of your solar heating system.  Below are freeze preventions steps:

  1. Turn off the solar heating system at controller (if a manual system turn 3-way valve into the solar off position)
  2. Turn off the pool pump
  3. Open solar drain valve (if you have a manual draining system)
  4. Remove endcap on solar panel and let system drain for a hour
  5. If you can not get on your roof wait 2 hours for the VRV to drain your panels
  6. Close isolation valves (ONLY AFTER SYSTEM IS DRAINED)
  7. The pool pump, filter, and pool sweeps can now be used while remaining isolated from the solar system.

Please note: Operating your solar system during freezing conditions IS NOT an approved freeze-protection method

PV and Goldline Controlled Solar Hot Water Systems Freeze protection Procedure:

  1. Goldline Controlled System: Unplug controller from the wall outlet

(or) PV Controlled System: Disconnect both wire nuts connecting wires together and pull the wires apart disconnecting power from the PV panel to the pump ( The wire nut connections are located by the pump)

  1. Close isolation valves on both feed and return lines
  2. Connect water hose on to the feed line drain valve and drain completely. Repeat process on the return lines drain valve until both lines are empty
